Top 10 Thrift stores in Brussels

Episode is part of a chain that has stores all over Belgium and the Netherlands. Their store in Brussels is close to the Grand Place so ideal to combine with some

Everything in this store is well picked out as if you are shopping a vintage fashion Pinterest board. They have tons of vintage Levi’s, flashy 80’s jackets, flowery and flirty dresses, beaten up all stars and already broken in Dr. Martens. In winter they also have an amazing selecting of cozy cashmere for only 25 euros!

Think twice has three shops in Brussels. They are similar to Episode but at a slightly lower price range. They have fewer vintage jeans, but they do have an amazing selection of cool jackets and blouses. They are most known for their crazy sale days when they start with 30% off the entire store and end with 1 euro per piece over 10 days. They do this at the end of every month.

Foxhole vintage has two locations: The store close to the Vossenplein is slightly more expensive than their other store.  They sell the same vintage style as Episode and Think twice but mostly higher quality or more unique pieces. At their store in the city center, they also sell trendy shoes like dad sneakers. These are not vintage though. They also have an amazing selection of holographic fanny packs and cozy and warm beanies

Les petit riens is a more traditional second-hand store. It’s a nonprofit organization with shops all over the city. They have yellow bins on almost every corner of every street where you can drop off the clothes you got bored of after too much vintage shopping. These clothes then get sold in all of their shops. The profits they make go to projects that help people in poverty. They also give jobs to the unemployed to work in the stores. The best shop is their biggest shop at rue des americaines. Here you can find bins full of cheap clothes and racks full of nicer items. They also receive slightly defaulted stock from the H&M group that they sell at 2,5 euro a piece.

This thrift store requires a lot of digging but you can find amazing pieces.

5. Retro paradise

Right next to the big store in Rue des Americaines you can find the retro paradise from les petit riens. At slightly higher prices they sell their best pieces. So, if you are in a hurry and don’t feel like digging through piles of clothes this is the place to be!

Melting Pot kilo also has two locations. As the name already gives away, they sell clothing by the kilo. 1kg of clothes will set you back 15 euros. A really great price point. You can get jeans for around 8 euros, shoes for 11, coats for 20-30 euros, skirts, blouses and t-shirts for around 2 and sweaters around 5 euros. Some digging is required but you can definitely find some amazing pieces. They only have one fitting room which is always occupied so trying on in the store is totally acceptable.

7. Matongé

Matongé is a part of Ixelles. All throughout the little streets, you can find independent second-hand stores. Some are amazing and have piles of current or really nice vintage pieces others only sell ugly old pieces. You just have to walk around and try a couple. Most of them only accept cash so be sure to bring some!

8. Marollen

Every morning at the Vossenplein there is a gigantic vintage market. All kinds of different sellers come together to sell second-hand furniture, bikes (that probably have been stolen before sold, be aware of that), art, bits and bobs, and some clothes. Be sure to haggle the price down, they tend to charge way too much!

Every first Sunday of the month there is a big vintage market in the Sint-Gorikshallen. Episode, Think Twice and many other vintage stores come together into one big second-hand paradise. The prices are quite high though, and they only accept cash. You can also find some independent sellers on the first floor selling handcrafted unique items. Also, a day at the vintage market cannot be complete without a brunch in one of the many cafes nearby!

10. “Brussel Verniet”

If you live in the city this Facebook page can be really helpful. On here people post things they want to get rid of and you can pick it up. You can also post if you are looking for an item, maybe somebody has it in the depth of their basement somewhere and wants to hand it over to you. It’s a great place to keep an eye on for all the free goodies.
