Three Years To Travel

Hi, I am Insen De Backer.  I am 21 years old, have a brother and a sister and I live in the Amazing City of Brussels. 

 

3 years ago, I graduated from high school. After six long and exhausting years I had no idea what I wanted to with my life. After breaking my head over catalogues and websites from every university you can possibly imagine I decided on social sciences. After some time, I realised I hated it, so I changed my path. I decided upon a different route, politics. Again, it ended up not being what I wanted.  By now I had already lost 3 precious years of my life. I barely studied, partied the nights away almost every week and worked my ass off to earn enough money to do so. But my favourite pass-time off all times was watching YouTube videos. I watched people I did not know, live their lives and travel to places I had never heard of. They opened my eyes to a whole new world beyond the borders of Europe. 

 

 

 

So that is where my wanderlust was born. I want to see enough of this gigantic globe to make it feel small. I want to explore every hidden corner and all of the highlighted tourist sites. I want to taste every mouth-watering cuisine, hike every breath-taking trail, swim in all clear blue oceans and hike every stunning mountain trail. My dream is to travel full time, be able to drop everything and leave on a new adventure whenever I want. Therefore, I need to make traveling my job. So, I created my action plan: I have three years to get to that point, three years to travel. I started working on my blog and YouTube channel, both named Threeyearstotravel and I also decided on a new academic route, Tourism. I left all my awful prejudices about educational university behind and want for a degree in my passion.

  

 

 

The plan for the first year is to see as much of Europe as I possibly can while spending the long hot summer days working so I can save up for some insane destinations. New Zealand and Bali peek high on the never-ending bucket list. 

 

However, I don’t live, eat and breathe only travel. I have other passions too. Photography for example. It’s more than a hobby, it’s a family heritage. Both of my parents are photographers and my grandparents were the ones who inspired them. We all have our own style but it’s a passion we share. I especially love the nostalgia of analogue photography. The exciting mystery of taking a photo and not knowing what the result will be has something special in a fast-paced world. Opening one the long-awaited envelopes compares to opening presents on Christmas morning. 

Furthermore, I also have amazing boyfriend Jeroen, I enjoy cooking, I am a vegetarian/almost vegan and my favourite form of exercise is shopping haha. No, I also enjoy doing some fitness from time to time, so you don’t see how much delicious vegan food I can eat. 

 

So I think that’s all I can tell about myself right now. I am just figuring life out as it comes an try to live it at its fullest. And I hope that maybe I can inspire you to do that too.
